Cardinal Pierre

October is the month of the rosary.

Blessed Alan [de la Roche] says that a Cardinal named Pierre, whose titular church was Saint Mary-beyond-the-Tiber, was introduced to the practice of the Holy Rosary by his close friend Saint Dominic and so cultivated this devotion that he became a veritable apostle of it.

Eventually, he was sent as Legate to the Holy Land to help the Crusaders who were fighting the Saracens. So thoroughly did he convince the Christian army of the power of the Rosary that all the soldiers said it in order to plead for heaven’s help in a battle in which they knew they would be greatly outnumbered.

The end result was that the three thousand Christians gained a victory over an enemy of one hundred thousand.

As we have seen, the devils have an overwhelming fear of the Rosary. Saint Bernard says that the Angelic Salutation [Hail Mary] puts the devils to flight and causes hell to tremble.

Blessed Alan assures us that he has seen several people delivered from Satan’s bondage after they had taken up the Rosary. These were people who had sold themselves in body and soul to Satan by renouncing their Baptism and Jesus Christ.
