Obama and HHS Infringe on Your Religious Liberty

Today, Obama declared that the federal government will now officially ignore the First Amendment* to the Constitution.  You remember the Bill of Rights, don’t you?  Obama and Sebelius ignore it.  You remember we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights?  Endowed by our Creator.  That means the government has no authority to repeal our rights.

Please, contact your senators and representative via Catholic Advocate.  They have a message ready to send.  (http://bit.ly/yAd1FV)  You can edit it if you desire.

Add something along these lines to the message:

The First Amendment to the Constitution protects the religious liberties of citizens.  Religious liberty is not simply going to church.  It means living according to the faith.  The people of this nation are allowed to live their faith with no government intrusion or obstruction.  I am Catholic.  According to our faith, the womb is the domain of God.  That is why we do not prevent life using contraception or sterilization nor end life using abortifacient drugs.  This law infringes on our religious liberties; therefore it is unconstitutional.  It is your duty to repeal Obamacare in its entirety because it is entirely unconstitutional.

*First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

  1. Dear Michael,

People whose religion permits abortion, sterilization and birth control have just as much Constitutional right to live according to their tradition as you. Your religious rights do not include a right to compel others to live according to the rules of your religion. What you do with your own life, is your own business.

    • Demanding our constitutional right (with which we are endowed by our Creator, not by the government) that forbids Congress from making a law that prohibits the free exercise of religion is in no way compelling others to live according to the Catholic faith. No individual nor any level of government has the authority to force the Catholic Church or any Catholic individual to pay for contraception, sterilization, and abortifacient drugs (chemical abortions). If this is allowed to stand, forcing the Church to pay for surgical abortions will not be far behind.

If you do not mind the rights of certain people being violated, do not complain when your own rights are also violated. The Constitution was written to protect citizens from the federal government. It was written to limit the power of the federal government. Most power is supposed to rest with individuals and state governments. The federal government has 18 constitutionally authorized duties. Medical care is not among them.
