Happy Saint Valentine’s Day

Saint Valentine. There was more than one martyr named Valentine. But the one we celebrate today was a priest in Rome. Valentine of Rome gave aid to prisoners, the persecuted Christians under emperor Claudius II. The prefect of Rome endeavored to make Valentine renounce his faith. He failed. And as happens when a Christian is persecuted yet stays faithful to Christ, he is martyred. Valentine was clubbed and finally beheaded.

Legend holds that the current celebration began in 15th century England. It’s said that birds selected their mates on February 14th. It became a custom for men and women exchanged love notes on that date.

Happy Saint Valentine’s Day. I hope you enjoy this day with your loved one. But more importantly, always keep your faith. Be a saint. Even if it means be a martyr.
